Troop 245 History

Troop 245 was first chartered on January 3, 1928 at Miles Crossing in Clatsop County.  From there the Troop moved to Timber, Oregon and  then to Warren, Oregon.  After a short stay at Oregon City, the Troop was next located in Tigard and sponsored by the Durham P. T. A.

In 1961, the Troop moved to Bethany Presbyterian Church with Mr. Clayton Rice as Minister and Mr. Ken Michener as Scout Master.  Ken served during 1961 and 1962.  In 1963 and for the next three years, Mr. Robert Yearout took over the responsibilities of ScoutMaster for Troop 245. For 29 years, Bob Cameron, assisted by some very hard working Fathers and Mothers and the strong support of the church, served as ScoutMaster.

Terry Hendren, an Eagle Scout of Troop 245, with tutelage from Bob Cameron, stepped in as ScoutMaster in November of 1994 to continue the good work and traditions of the Troop.

The troop has been sponsored by Bethany Presbyterian Church for the past 42 years, and is the longest, continuously sustained youth organization of the church.

Troop 245 has a very proud tradition of excellence and noteworthy achievement.  The Troop is recognized as one of the outstanding Boy Scout troops in the Cascade Pacific Council.
